On November 30, noted Chinese writer Marberionius joined Jincheng Lecture as a guest. Through a unique conception of history, he unfolded the lecture based on the topic of Greatness and Smallness in History to explore the little-known historical stories and share his understanding of history and writing career.

He started from the excerpt anecdotes of The Orchid Pavilion, and proceeded with inscriptions on tomb-guarding stones in the Han Dynasty and the stone tablets of Xuanzang’s Hometown. From the detailed historical stories, facts and scenes, the small potatoes and events true to life behind the grand historical background were narrated, revealing the greatness of history and truth of humanity. “The ‘greatness’ and ‘smallness’ in history are interdependent. Only when you know enough about ‘smallness’ can you gain a more sensitive and better understanding of ‘greatness’,” Marberionius pointed out. In comparison to pure records of years and facts, these dramatic anecdotes and detail scenes in critical moments can leave a deeper impression and arouse people’s interest in and relation to history. The lecture full of wit and humor was easy to understand and precise, leading the audience to the vast land of knowledge through the path of history. The audience were able to truly feel the fun and warmth about history. “Knowing the minor details about history is not ‘splitting hairs’. Each detail is like a drop of water. The drops of water will eventually converge into a river, and history will clearly present itself to us,” Marberionius said.

“I have come to know and taken to Marberionius from the teleplay ‘The Longest Day in Chang’an’,” Ms. Wang told the reporter. The works of Marberionius are often started from small scenes and small potatoes to reveal the great from the small, highly readable. “I brought my kid to the lecture today, so that he can realize that we must pay attention to details and feel the great environment from the small things, in writing or in daily life.”
