On January 5 in lunar calendar, Shehuo started in Lanzhou until January 15 or 16. The sound of drum all over the ground, the dazzling colors and the quaint and elegant shape have fully reflected the characteristics of Lanzhou.

The order of characters and their roles of the Lanzhou Shehuo Team, which used to worship gods for blessings in the past, are very elaborate. Standing in the front of team is Wind Woman and Rainmaker, wishing for good weather and good harvest. They are followed by the big-headed arhat who is flirting with a girl called Liucui. The arhat is wearing a big-headed mask and Liucui wears colorful clothes and they are both dancing. Next is Spring Official sitting on a dragon palanquin. Spring Official is the official of spring, who resembles the clown in traditional Chinese Operas. He wears a round-winged and black hat, with his eye sockets painted white. He has a beard, wears a red official robe, holds a folded fan, and sits on the Master's chair, which is rather comical. He is followed by a dozen young men and women in ancient costumes with gauzy horse heads and tails on their chest and back. They are followed by Boat Girl, and the performances of pushing carts and lions rolling hydrangea balls, and finally is the Lanzhou drumming performance.
