In recent years, Wuwei City has been pushing ahead with the construction of a city renowned for culture and tourism, issuing a series of policies one after another to support the development of cultural tourism, establish designated fund for cultural tourism and help the continuous development of the entities in cultural tourism industry. The construction of Cultural Tourism Complex in Leitai Scenic Spot, Protective Construction of Historic Cultural Streets, Tianti Mountain Ecological and Cultural Scenic Spot, Shenzhou Desert Wild Animal Zoo, Suwu Desert Scenic Spot, Wuqiaoling Scenic Spot and so on have promoted the in-depth integration between tourism and culture, sports, popularization of science, health care and holiday economy.

Cultural Tourism Complex in Leitai Scenic Spot under construction is the largest cultural tourism complex PPP project in Gansu Province. The overall investment is RMB 5.85 billion yuan. The project started in 2018 and is scheduled to complete in 2020. The complex includes Han Culture History Museum, Tianma Museum, Liangzhou Poetry Museum, Tianma Expo Park, Liangzhou Poetry Park, Tianma Promenade, Cultural Communication and Performance Center, Tourists Plaza and Folk Custom Plaza, Hexi Cultural Walking Street, Comprehensive Service Center for Tourists, Cultural Creativity Incubation Center, Tianma Cultural Creativity Incubation Industrial Park, Man-made Lake, Landscape, Intelligent Tourism System, Road System, Comprehensive Pipeline System and so on. Wuwei Cultural Tourism Complex in Leitai Scenic Spot has four functional areas, such as ruins protection area, cultural venue area, cultural experience area and service area; besides, there are twenty one observation areas. Once the project is complete, it will further promote the formation of key areas in the silk road economic belt and the regional core city of Gansu, which will be of great benefit to the construction of a renowned cultural tourism city.

Upon entering Nanla Folk Custom Cultural Village of Tiantang Village, Tiantang town, Tianzhu County, the Tibetan-style villas and pagoda cultural corridor take people’s breath away. Tiantang Village is among the first batch of domestic villages focusing on tourism. In recent years, featured village tourism industry such as Nanla folk custom cultural village keeps growing fast, which supports the development of cultural tourism in Tianzhu county. Tibetan-style courtyard, wood-carving replicas of ancient buildings, plank walks, the Eight Auspicious Symbols in the running water and rainbow music fountain add to the uniqueness and are very Tibetan. Since 2019, Tiantang Town has been establishing the village tourism mode of “eating, living and entertaining in local households” and has attracted RMB 120 million yuan to work on the Tiantang Town Tourism Comprehensive Development Project, setting up Folk Custom Experience Museum and Folk Custom Cultural Village integrating accommodation, catering, entertainment and summer getaway, obviously upgrading reception quality and taste. According to statistics, overall reception of tourists in 2019 reached 500,000. Revenue from tourism reached RMB 80 million yuan, growing by 20%. To develop the featured village tourism, Wuwei city gives full play to the ecological and resources advantages of Tianzhu Tibetan Autonomous Town, focuses on Tibentan customs and cultures as well as homestay, village catering, entertainment and vacation, builds the tourism brand as “Tibetan Village in the Land of Snows, a Great Place for Summer Getaway” and nurtures motivations for green development. In 2019, Tianzhu Tibetan Autonomous Town received 1.3444 million people, overall tourism revenue being RMB 829 million yuan. Contribution and influences of cultural tourism industry to the economic society keeps improving.

Next, Wuwei will implement the plan of whole-region tourism and village tourism development and promote the integrated development of cultural tourism + multi-industries for a renowned cultural tourism city that is true to its name.
