On November 26th, the reporter learned from Lanzhou Sports Bureau that physical exercise has become a daily routine of citizens of Lanzhou, and that the number of people who regularly take physical exercise in Lanzhou has reached 1.48 million and the proportion of sports population has reached 38%. As a result, the city of Lanzhou has become increasingly vigorous.
It is important to make physical exercise more readily available to Lanzhou people so as to facilitate Lanzhou’s development. In recent years, Lanzhou government has made great efforts to create a good environment for the development of sports undertakings by improving sports facilities and holding brand events. For example, Lanzhou government has promoted the construction of public sports facilities along the banks of the Yellow River, carried out various fitness activities, and organized activities of telling the "Yellow River Story" in various forms. Up to now, a total of 1,013 morning and evening fitness spots have been built and there has been 15,100 fitness instructors. The fitness facilities are being improved, and the number of fitness instructors and fitness lovers keeps increasing. 1.48 million people take regular physical exercises, accounting for 38% of the total population. To mitigate the impact of covid-19 pandemic on sports activities, Lanzhou government has carried out a series of online sports events since the beginning of this year on the web and mobile phones, such as the online competition of the 2020 Lanzhou International Marathon, the clock-punching challenge competition and the national running season competition with a total of 500,000 participants. These activities have motivated the people of Lanzhou to carry out more fitness activities. Nearly 20,000 athletes and non-athletes participated in the "2020 Lanzhou Shore of Yellow River Sports Week" held recently with nearly 80,000 spectators.
It is understood that Lanzhou government will explore the Yellow River Culture and the traditional superior sports events by holding mass sports brand events such as the Yellow River Winter Swimming Performance Competition on New Year's day, and develop water leisure fitness projects such as river-crossing races, motorboat races and sheepskin rafting to meet people's multi-level and diversified needs for fitness and leisure.
