Lanzhou, China, November 19 -- November 21, Jincheng Culture Salon invited Tong Dingjia, a famous artist of epigraphy, who will bring an academic discussion and work exhibition of epigraphy for Lanzhou citizens. He will illustrate the history of Chinese epigraphy to the audiences by the presentation of exquisite epigraphy pieces.

Tong Dingjia is a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, a member of Xiling Yinshe, a part-time professor of Academy of Fine Art& Design NWNU, and the president of Gansu Jinshi Engraving Research Institute. He had won the first prizes of the First Gansu Engraving Exhibition, the Fourth Young and Middle-aged calligraphy and Engraving Exhibition and so on, his works has been exhibited on the Eighth National Calligraphy and Engraving Exhibition (China Calligraphers Association), etc. On 2018, the epigraphy exhibition named Tuomo Xunzhen held by Tong Dingjia, Ma Xiaolei and Yang Bo enjoyed great response. During this exhibition, the two artists shared their notions and experiences about epigraphy with Lanzhou citizens. Epigraphy uses paper to tightly cover the words and pictures of gold and stones, and then prints them with ink. This art form honestly reveals the long history and the major events that happened in the past to the world.

We also invited Ma Xiaolei as the honored guest to interact with the audiences during this campaign.

As to the ancient epigraphy, they believe that as a craftsmanship, epigraphy has made invaluable devotion to the inheritance and promotion of Chinese civilization. During the prosperous period of the Han and Tang Dynasties, the thought of "Universal" of Confucianism had been spread in the world, especially in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and other places, who would preserve and reflect the Confucian classics by inscribing stone and wooden boards, and pursue the thoughts of loyalty and filial piety, courtesy, respect teachers, value talents, self-discipline, diligence, regulate the family and rule the state. For the past five thousand years, on the oriental land, the drainage areas of the Yellow River and Yangtze River, Epigraphy spread the Chinese culture and characters like seeds through the reproduction and flow of human beings.

With the continuous breakthrough of modern archaeology, the appearances of the pictorial symbols on painted pottery, inscriptions on oracle bones, cultural relics and other national treasures with written records, the invention and development of epigraphy has been promoted. On the present day, epigraphy is no longer hiding in the closet, it has become a artistic and prevalent manner which plays a significant role in the open publicity work for the general public especially the teenagers. As epigraphy artists, Tong Dingjia and Ma Xiaolei said they would strive to inherit and promote this ancient art. In the new era, as a method of copying and preserving data and literature, epigraphy will be made to its fullest use to the establishment of cultural confidence and the demonstration of Chinese wisdom.
