Citizens are choosing and purchasing intangible cultural heritage New Year goods

As the Spring Festival approaches, the festive atmosphere is growing stronger. Streets and alleys are decorated with lanterns and colorful ornaments, and crowds surge. Different from previous years, this year Chengguan District has perfectly integrated tradition with innovation, and culture with life, adding a unique flavor to the Spring Festival.

On February 4th, the Jinchengguan Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Area was bustling with people. It is no longer just a simple display window, but has become a lively "Intangible Cultural Heritage New Year Workshop". Paper-cutting, sugar painting, cloisonné... Each product has its own unique features. "This year, all the products in our intangible cultural heritage exhibition area are related to the Year of the Horse elements," said Mr. Wang Hanjie, a sugar painter, while making sugar paintings. "It's no longer just 'watching without doing', but letting everyone make their own intangible cultural heritage work with their own hands. The New Year flavor made by oneself has a more different meaning."

Ms. Fan Wenjing, a citizen, brought her son to purchase intangible cultural heritage New Year goods. "All the products here are intangible cultural heritage works. I think they are particularly meaningful—both beautiful and interesting," she said, holding a paper-cutting printed with "Get rich immediately."

"Come on, look at the camera and smile." At Koala Family Photo Studio, the sound of shutters clicking echoes one after another. This photo studio, specializing in family photography, is extremely busy as the Spring Festival approaches. "We have launched special themed photography for the Year of the Horse this year, which is particularly popular among customers," Linda, the manager of Koala Family Photo Studio, told reporters. "Now there are more than 20 families taking photos every day, and more and more people choose to take family portraits in the New Year to capture beautiful moments."

Citizen Wang Hao specially brought his whole family to take photos today. "The Chinese New Year is coming soon, and the child is just one year old. I want to take a family portrait as a souvenir," he said. "The photographers in this store are skilled and patient. It feels like what they are taking is not just photos, but a testimony to the good life that ordinary people like us are living."

In the evening, the time-honored Yuebin Building was packed with customers. To facilitate customers' shopping, Yuebin Building specially set up a New Year's dish exhibition and sale, offering various traditional delicacies such as braised pork belly, stuffed pastries, and meatballs. "In the minds of Lanzhou people, the New Year's Eve dinner at Yuebin Building has always been hard to get a table for," introduced Li Haoping, deputy manager of Yuebin Building. "Since last June, all our private rooms, including the halls on the first to fifth floors, have been fully booked. We have also launched different packages for different customers to choose from." Ms. Lin, who was buying New Year's dishes, told the reporter, "This is a time-honored brand, and its quality is guaranteed. It's just right to buy some to eat during the Chinese New Year."

On February 7th, a lively Spring Festival event combining traditional handicrafts and food tasting kicked off at Suning Max Super Experience Store, attracting many citizens to participate with their families.

At the event site, the two major handicraft areas, "Year of the Horse Photo Frame DIY" and "Year of the Horse Small Ornament DIY", were extremely popular. Customers sat around the tables, drew inspiration from horse patterns, and carefully collaged and weaved with materials such as golden tassels, colorful beads, feathers, and metal wires, integrating their good wishes for the New Year into their creations with their fingertips. From outlining the contours of the steed to adding vivid tassels, from weaving heavenly horse ornaments to tying auspicious knots, each work is unique and carries the flavor of the New Year created by hand. Many parents participated with their children, passing on traditional folk customs through collaboration and allowing the children to feel the charm of the zodiac culture in practice. "My child and I made a Year of the Horse photo frame with golden tassels. He chose his favorite horse stickers and said he would put our family photo in it," said citizen Liu Xiaoxiao with a smile while showing her work. "This kind of handicraft activity is more meaningful than simply buying New Year's goods. It allows children to learn about zodiac culture while doing hands-on work, and also leaves exclusive New Year memories."

Meanwhile, the "Mark the New Year Flavor, Let's Enjoy the New Year's Eve Dinner Together" food tasting area was filled with even more warmth. The long table was laid out with fragrant dishes—appetizing braised dishes with 诱人 colors and refreshing, delicious seasonal vegetables that made people's mouths water. Customers sitting around the table either chatted softly or shared food with each other, with continuous laughter and cheers filling the scene, and the air was permeated with the aroma of food and the warmth of family reunion. While tasting the delicious food, everyone also got an early feel for the ritual of the New Year's Eve dinner. "I didn't expect to have an early New Year's Eve dinner in the mall. The dishes taste very authentic, and everyone gathering together to share the food gives a particularly strong New Year vibe," said Li Yong, a citizen who came to the event with his parents. "This lively atmosphere reminds me of the scenes when I was a child preparing the New Year's Eve dinner with my family; it's very warm."

Behind the intangible cultural heritage New Year goods lies the upgrading of cultural consumption; in the smiling faces of family portraits hides the warmth of a stable life; the taste of the reunion dinner has also become richer along with life choices. These seemingly ordinary Spring Festival scenes actually reflect the profound changes in people's lives. For ordinary people, the Spring Festival can be celebrated with new warmth and new hopes every year. (Reporter of this newspaper: Zhou Yanwen, Correspondent: Shan Xiaolong Text/Photos)
