Lanzhou China Network, July 2 report: On the afternoon of July 1, Shanggou Primary School in Chengguan District held an event featuring club achievement exhibitions and an open house for parents. Parent representatives visited the campus and classrooms, observed the distinctive teaching models of student clubs and the nurturing campus atmosphere on site, and witnessed wonderful moments of students' all-round development.

In the school’s club room, each club showcased its activities and talents: in the Go club, teachers explained basic techniques such as capturing pieces, encircling space, and planning the layout in an easy-to-understand manner, and corrected students’ habits of placing stones one by one; in the Science and Technology club, students engaged in practical activities and explored innovation, demonstrating rigorous scientific thinking and a spirit of inquiry; in the Arts club, songs were melodious and dances were graceful, reflecting the youthful vitality of the students; in the Sports club, members were energetic and determined, embodying the spirit of sports for all; the works of the Traditional Crafts and Local Culture Practice club were unique, cleverly blending the culture of the Yellow River, Lanzhou’s ecological characteristics, and traditional craftsmanship. Each exquisite piece of work and each remarkable moment showcased the rich achievements of Shangui Primary School’s distinctive school-based curriculum and the diverse interests and talents of its students. Wang Yinru, a fifth-grade student at Shangui Primary School, said with joy, “Our handicraft club is really interesting. The teachers not only taught us how to make handicrafts but also explained the culture of the Yellow River and local non-heritage stories. We not only practiced our manual skills but also learned about traditional culture.”

It is learned that Shanggou Primary School adheres to the core philosophy of "Universal Nurturance for Upward Growth". It strives to develop a three-level climbing curriculum system consisting of "Rooting, Growing and Aspiring for Great Heights", innovatively offers 28 distinctive club courses, equips dedicated activity venues, and collaborates with parents to jointly nurture students. The curriculum system covers various fields including arts, sports, science and innovation, handicrafts and traditional culture. Meanwhile, drawing on local resources of Lanzhou, the school integrates Yellow River culture, ecological culture and intangible cultural heritage into school-based curricula to build exclusive school curriculum brands, enabling education to take root in local land and nourish children's hearts.

"Education extends far beyond textbook knowledge; its core lies in empowering students to achieve all-round development. Our school has established a three-level climbing curriculum system: basic courses consolidate students' academic foundations, featured club courses cater to students' personalized interests, and inquiry-based courses boost students' higher-order thinking skills, truly fulfilling the goal of 'every student has a specialty and every student can thrive,' said Guo Xiaohong, Director of Academic Affairs at Shanggou Primary School in Chengguan District.
