On June 2nd, for “Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the CPC, recalling the Lanzhou”, Affection for the Yellow River, Wang Xueshi’s classic music masterpiece was performed at a concert in Lanzhou, Gansu province. The concert was sponsored by a project for public benefits called “Ge Shi Bai Qain”. It refined the cultural connotation of the Yellow River through music art and reflected the rapid development and changes and the brilliant achievements made in the development of various aspects in Lanzhou since the founding of New China.
Carry forward the Yellow River culture and hand down the spirit of the times. At 20 o’clock that night, the concert officially began with one after another music played on the banks of the Yellow River. The beautiful melody made the audience seem to sometimes travel across the vast Loess Plateau, and sometimes visit the shores of the splendid Yellow River. The concert consists of two parts: the large-scale symphony The Yellow River Symphony and the oratorio The Peacock Flies Southeast. The well-known young conductor Jiao Yang cooperated with Chai Ying, a coloratura soprano singer, Guo Lin, a mezzo-soprano, and young tenors Shi Shali and Liu Zhihong, and young soprano Yu Huifang. A wonderful art audio-visual feast was brought to the audience.
The Yellow River passing through Lanzhou is a home to the city’s unique and long-standing culture. Wang Xueshi, a famous conductor and composer in Gansu Province, went deep into his life and collected excellent music materials. After more than a year, he composed Lanzhou’s first large-scale symphony, The Yellow River Symphony which consists of four movements. With the Yellow River, the birthplace of the Chinese nation, as the background, the culture of the Silk Road, nation, the Yellow River, and revolutionary are transformed into musical elements. With a grand conception and a clear theme, the song not only has strong, impassioned, and inspiring chapters, but also has chapters of lyrical and graceful descriptions of romantic feelings. It passionately praises the people of Lanzhou for forging ahead, uniting for the victory of Lanzhou in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and a modern hub city, and realizing the faith of striving for a better life.
